Hunnewell Hive

Hunnewell Hive is the school’s student-run newspaper. It is published 1-3 times per year, typically Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer.

Who contributes to the Hunewell Hive publication?

Hunnewell Hive showcases content created by 4th and 5th grade Hunnewell students, with oversight from project Chairs who provide structure, guidelines, and manage all operational aspects, including leading meetings and editing content.

What content can students contribute?

Students are encouraged to write and submit original content that’s fun and exciting to them!  They can work individually, in pairs, or in groups, and can submit one piece on their own or contribute as part of a group. Chairs help set Hive themes, content guidelines, assist students with brainstorming, editing for consistency and character limits, and more as needed.

What should I do if my child wants to contribute?

Email the Hive.  When your child attends the Hive's kick-off meeting, encourage them to bring ideas for one or two articles. We'll brainstorm and assign articles or content during the meeting. Support your child by helping them plan and complete their work on time, including steps from preparation to submission, while the project Chairs will assist as needed. (Reach out if you’d like to help!)

Do students benefit from writing for the Hive?

Absolutely! Writing for the school newspaper helps kids improve their writing and critical thinking skills, fosters creative expression, and builds confidence. It also teaches responsibility and connects them with their school community.
